About EBN Hydrolysate

Edible bird nest (EBN) is a dried glutinous secretion from the salivary glands of several different swiftlet species. It is widely consumed as a health food due to its high beneficial effects to human health and has been considered to be one of the most precious food items by the Chinese for thousands of years. The glycoproteins, a major component of EBN has unique properties related to claims of health, vigour, beauty and cure for all illnesses. As glycoprotein and sialic acid are the major components of EBN, research and food product development on EBN had been focused on the effects of micro-particulates and enzymatic hydrolysis processing steps undertaken to explore the ‘bioactive’ peptides and glycopeptides in relation to the functional properties.

Our Technology focused on production of EBN hydrolysate with selective enzymatic hydrolysis of microparticulates of EBN which have resulted in highly digestible bioactive glycopeptides with significant antioxidative (anti-aging), antihypertensive and antidiabetic activities. The innovation of developing Bioactive Swiftlet Nest Hydrolysates is based on the biotechnologically processed (specific enzymatic hydrolysis), bioactive peptides from EBN hydrolysate (nutritious and high protein digestibility) tested with accepted scientific practices.

Traditionally, the Chinese believed that EBN can increase the body’s resistance against many diseases. They used edible bird nest as a delicacy, and it is also an important ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to improve health, increase cell growth and skin tissue regeneration, reducing asthma, strengthen the immune system and also gives benefits to cancer patients. Through some research done, EBN were found to be stimulating mitosis and growth hormone. It was reported that EBN can prevent influenza virus in humans. In spites of all benefits reported, there is still little research on anti-hypertensive activity of EBN where hypertension is a global health problem and continues to rise at an alarming trend. Antioxidants plays an important role in neutralization of harmful peroxides and free radicles. However, scientific information on the antioxidant properties of edible bird nest has not been reported to date. Our patented EBN hydrolysate are proven as a highly digestible natural antioxidant, antihypertensive and antidiabetics properties with significant biological values. UKM has started this innovative research since 2013 and with 5 years dedications in research, we proudly present to you our penta series.
